Unbelievably, we are surrounded by twenty-five lakes (among them, Lake Tyler!), ripe for boating and fishing. Tyler State Park is a treasure of 985 acres of woods highlighted by its beautiful spring-fed lake. Here, we enjoy boating, swimming, camping, and relaxing picnics. We Tylerites even have a non-profit organization, SPORTyler, solely dedicated to promoting amateur sports and public recreational activities in the Tyler area.
Noteworthy, and specifically developed by and for our senior community, is the Tyler Area Senior Citizens Association, now comfortably settled into its new 30,000 square foot complex, the TASCA Ornelas Activity Center. Comprised of over eight-hundred (and growing) area senior citizens, this dynamic group has even been given special recognition and praise by the Texas House of Representatives.
A calendar full of Tyler's festivals and events is always available, beginning with a breathtaking spring flower celebration known as the Azalea Trail. The Texas Rose Festival, a part of Tyler's heritage since 1933, is held in October, and, for added flavor, Tyler has countless chili cook-offs. Tyler, Texas has an abundance of civic clubs, service organizations, and not-for-profit organizations - all with events, galas, parties, and benefits.
